Campus History

Founded in 1966 as a branch campus of Manchester Community College, Middlesex Community College (MxCC) became an independent member of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System in 1968. MxCC first operated in space rented from the Middletown Public School District and loaned by the Connecticut Valley Hospital. Designed for job and career training for “non-traditional” adult learners, MxCC was created to operate as a “center of educational opportunity open to all seekers.”
In 1973, the college moved to its present 38-acre Middletown campus at 100 Training Hill Road, overlooking the scenic Connecticut River valley. Chapman Hall opened in 1992, while Founders Hall was expanded. In 1979, a branch was opened in Meriden, which moved to its current location (55 West Main Street, Meriden) in 2004. It expanded again in 2013 to enhance technology and labs. In 2014, Founders Hall was renovated to include the new pavilion gathering space and outdoor deck.

In 2016, Middlesex celebrated 50 years as "the college of its community," serving over 82,000 students along the way.

In July 2023, MxCC became CT State Middlesex and the Meriden branch became CT State Middlesex-Meriden as part of the consolidation of the twelve CT community colleges into the unified CT State Community College.
