CT State Community College is a premier comprehensive statewide community college serving nearly 70,000 students annually and focused on building upon the history of Connecticut’s 12 legacy community colleges.

Dr. John Maduko is the inaugural President of Connecticut State Community College (CT State). He assumed office in June 2022, following a nationwide search and unanimous vote by the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) Board of Regents for Higher Education. As president, Maduko is responsible for the unified $500 million statewide community college that is the largest institution of higher education in Connecticut, the largest community college in New England, and one of the largest community colleges in the country, serving nearly 70,000 students annually across 23 locations statewide.

President Maduko made a special appearance on CNN. He discussed the state of community colleges nationwide and the importance of affordable higher education. He also mentioned the numerous academic and student support services available at CT State. Watch the video update.

President Maduko’s Convocation Address on August 30 was followed by a live Q&A session with Provost Brown and CEOs Hogan and Harris. While many questions were addressed during the presentation, there was not enough time to address all of them. The presentation and Q&A session were recorded and are available to watch now. While not every question has been answered yet, they are in the process of being responded to. The remainder will be shared as soon as possible. Dear CT State Faculty and Staff,   

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our inaugural cohort of the Presidential AI Fellows Program, a transformative five-month initiative designed to empower campus leaders with cutting-edge AI expertise across all CT State locations.   

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape our world, CT State is committed to positioning itself at the forefront of this technological revolution. The Presidential AI Fellows Program, fully funded by the President’s office, begins in February 2025 and offers a unique opportunity for you to:   

  • Gain comprehensive understanding of AI technologies and their applications in higher education
  • Develop strategic AI implementation skills for college-wide improvements and explore ethical and legal implications of AI in academic settings
  • Collaborate with peers on innovative AI projects that address real college challenges
  • Participate in monthly focused workshops on various aspects of AI
  • Create a customized AI playbook tailored to CT State's needs  

This program culminates in an exciting AI Hackathon, where you'll apply your newfound knowledge to solve real challenges, demonstrating the practical impact of AI in our college.   

We are seeking a diverse cohort of 35 individuals from across the college, representing faculty, staff, and administration backgrounds. Your unique perspectives will contribute to a rich learning environment and help drive AI innovation across CT State.

You can apply for the Fellowship online. The support of your manager, supervisor, or academic dean is strongly encouraged, as fellowship participants can expect to invest approximately two hours per week in learning/training. This prestigious award aims to celebrate renowned influencers, recognize community leaders, and honor industry trailblazers. Alongside Dr. Harris and Dr. Maduko is Southern Connecticut State University Interim President Dr. Dwayne Smith (right), who was also honored.
Inauguration
Dr. Maduko on this historic inauguration as the first President of CT State Community College! His dedication and leadership continues to pave way for a brighter future for CT State students.
Delegation
President Maduko attended the American Association of Community Colleges Trustees National Legislative Summit (NLS). A delegation of CT State students, faculty, campus leaders, and administrators joined other representatives from 1,300 community colleges throughout the country in Washington D.C. to advocate for our institutions of higher education.
Leadership Summit
President Maduko speaking at the 2-day Connecticut State Community College Leadership Summit, where nearly 80 members of CT State’s management team from across our statewide locations came together. This summit marked the first time all levels of management were brought together in person, demonstrating our collective commitment to addressing the pressing challenges and seizing the opportunities ahead as we enter our second year as a unified community college.

President Maduko collaborated with fellow community college presidents at the American Association of Community Colleges's President Academy Summer Institute (PASI), a pivotal event designed to foster leadership and innovation among community college leaders.
Hartford Healthcare
President Maduko attended the Hartford HealthCare’s Leadership Series: A Conversation on the Life & Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with special guest, U.S. Congressman U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn.
JAX Grant
The Jackson Laboratory and CSCU were awarded a $442,764 grant from the National Human Genome Research Institute for the "Genomics in Action" project. This three-year initiative aims to prepare CT State students for careers in bioscience and enhance Connecticut's workforce.
